It is no coincidence that retired high-ranking officials from the military and intelligence community are coming forward with stories of UFO encounters and cover-up by their government. It seems they want to unburden, get it off their chest before they leave this world, or perhaps they consider their stories too fantastic to withhold from the public. UFO cover-up has been going on for over 60 years now, and until recently I wondered why – what did governments have to lose by going public with the truth?

The cover-up started with Harry S. Truman’s presidency (1945-1953), when he appointed a high level committee to look into the UFO phenomena. The committee concluded that it was alien, and with the President’s approval, decided to hush it up. Consequently, the National Security Act passed in 1947, allowed the group to go underground and launched an era of cover-up that continues to this day.

Edgar Mitchell, American pilot, retired US Navy Captain and NASA astronaut, says that he is 90% certain that many of the thousands of UFOs recorded since the 1940s belong to visitors from other planets. He claims the Roswell crash was real, that aliens have contacted humans, and that government has hidden the truth. Mitchell said, “I happen to be privileged to be in on the fact that we’ve been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomenon is real.”

Mitchell believes that fear is behind the government cover-up – “Fear of not being able to protect and do their duty to the notion of power and control – controlling the knowledge and technology. Instead of using our science and technology for the greater good, it’s been captured by interest, greed and self-service.” In response, a spokesman for NASA said, “Dr. Mitchell is a great American but we do not share his opinions on this issue.” (from the documentary “The Phoenix Lights, We Are Not Alone)

Detailed reports of UFO encounters have come from military personnel in other parts of the world too. In 1980, Peruvian Air Force fighter pilot, Col. Oscar Santa-Maria, was ordered to shoot down a UFO spotted in restricted airspace. The Colonel’s pursuit of the UFO lasted 22 minutes. “I tried different positions. When it went up, it had supersonic speed. When I moved to the side of the UFO at 1.3 Mach, it stopped, and then in a matter of seconds, it achieved 1.2 Mach without any engines! This is something that nobody, no craft can do…it was able to anticipate my moves and then follow me.”

Col. Santa-Maria described the UFO as being 30 feet in diameter with a dome on top, and no visible engine, wings or windows. “When I first fired, there were bursts of 30 millimeter shells — a single one can destroy a truck. I shot 64 and nothing happened. The possibility of NOT hitting my target was practically impossible.” Later the Colonel met with intelligence officers to see if they could identify what possible spy object this might be. He determined “We were unaware of any type of technology like this that existed on Earth.”

Dr. Charles Hall, a Vietnam Veteran, spent 2 l/2 years in Indian Springs Valley, Nevada with the Technology Transfer Program. During those years he interacted with terrestrials and had some interesting things to say about alien “greys”.  He describes them as flesh and blood creatures like us, thin, frail, and tall at 8 l/2 – 10 feet. They live somewhere around 600 – 800 years, and by age 400 their skeleton starts to grow again, but the internal organs do not. Eventually the organs cannot support the larger frame and the alien dies.

US Marine Lance Corporal John Weygandt

One of the most revealing stories of a UFO encounter came from US Marine Lance Corporal John Weygandt. The young Corporal was with a unit in Peru in 1997 where they were “supposedly” tracking drug aircraft in Peru airspace. While on duty one night, Weygandt and two sergeants were ordered to secure a UFO crash site. When they arrived at the site they found a UFO – approximately 10 meters wide by 20 meters long embedded in the side of a cliff. The craft appeared to have been hit by a missile and it was dripping a purplish-green liquid that seemed to change color.

Weygandt said life forms inside the craft were calling to him for help. He described them as having oval egg-heads, big dark eyes, nose, small mouth, no ears, and four fingers on each hand. Their thoughts towards him were warm and loving, not threatening in any way. Soon after, reps from the Department of Energy showed up and arrested Weygandt. They took him to an interrogation room back at the base where he was questioned for 15 hours, threatened, and told to sign papers declaring he had not seen anything that night. He was segregated for three weeks before being released.

Weygandt said “the experience made me re-evaluate everything. There was no more denial, no going back.” (Lance Corporal John Weygandt was discharged from active duty. He later gave witness testimony for the Disclosure Project – the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence.)
